#KeepTalkingMH, created by Rebecca Lombardo, is a movement to inspire others to talk about mental health. Rebecca encourages us to “Get out there and spread the word that there’s NO SHAME in talking about mental health or mental illness.”

Rebecca is the author of It’s Not Your Journey. This is her true story of the battle she fights inside her mind every day. She documents what she is feeling to help others while she helps herself. I had the privilege of being on Rebecca’s podcast and we spoke about the daily struggle of living with mental illness. But back to “Keep Talking Mental Health Week…”

On Chester Bennington and Robin Williams: A Suicide Prevention Post

Yesterday, July 20, 2017, the world found out that Chester Bennington died. While I like Linkin Park, I wouldn’t consider myself a huge fan. All over social media, the world is echoing similar sentiments from nearly three years ago, when Robin Williams died. (Ironically, today, July 21, is Robin Williams’ birthday.) Unlike my pleasant yet lukewarm feelings about Chester Bennington, I absolutely adored Robin Williams and news of his death hit me hard. I thought about it for days, weeks, and still, a tear comes to my eye when I remember him. Both of these celebrities chose to end their lives by suicide.

That Time I Wrote a Stigma Fighters Piece

stigmafighters2My family and few close friends have known about my history with mental illness for years. However, publicly I’ve been less vocal. Sure, I have alluded to my history with depression in blog posts, like this one. And I’ve mentioned mental health in general in posts like this one. In my book Welcome The Rain, I lightly touched upon my history with depression. And yet, it took an invitation by @TheSarahFader to write for her non-profit, @StigmaFighters, for me to truly share “my story.

My New Year Manifesto

It’s late January and I’m just now getting around to my New Year post!

In 2016, my goal was to Be Bolder! Throughout the year, when faced with the opportunity to speak up for myself or others, I reminded myself that “This is my year of being bolder!” The experiences were good for me and my personal growth. I found that, lo and behold, speaking up was welcomed by those around me!

As 2017 is upon me, I’m reminded not to take a single day – or a single moment – for granted. Each and every day, I want to Live Life, and live in a way that is peaceful and gentle and compassionate and positive. Here, I present My Manifesto.

Little Baby Divine Awakening

The time has come for me to announce the birth of a new baby!


Yes, she’s a baby book and, like all new moms, I’m over the moon in love with her. While she’s not my first baby book, and she’s in fact not actually mine, she is just as special and as precious to me as all of my baby books.

Happiness Is Like a Butterfly

I’m writing again after an over-three-year hiatus.

I began blogging a few years ago as a form of self-expression. I enjoyed looking at events from my everyday life and turning them into poetic, meaningful events.

Eventually, blogging became a form of therapy for me. I wrote to crowd out the negative thoughts, to give my mind something to positive to focus on. While it worked for the most part, over time, I found myself moving past the point of moderation. Writing became an obsession for me. Given my history with depression, I was afraid that if I didn’t write – if I didn’t have this singular focus on positivity – that I’d take a nosedive. I’d go down that treacherous path once again.

Let Blessings Flow

Blessings, these divine gifts from above, can become interwoven into each and every day … if we allow them. By recognizing and being grateful for the blessings which we’ve been given, we open our hearts and minds to see the abundance of blessings waiting just for us.

While it’s easy to consider so-called positives in our lives “blessings,” we can equally consider trials and adversities to be blessings. James 1:2-4, one of my very favorites, speaks to this: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
